Life Legacy

Viola V. Hines, age 84, of 1267 Kansas Ave SE, Huron, died Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Huron Nursing Home.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1st at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tom Brantner officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning.

Viola Hines was born Viola V. Compton on December 27, 1920, to Otis and Nanny (Kirton) Compton at Lacona, IA. She attended school at rural Wessington Springs and graduated from Wessington Springs High School.

On November 15, 1939, Viola married Elmer G. Hines at Butte, NE. They lived in Wessington Springs for a short time before moving to a farm in rural Wessington Springs. Later they lived in the Wolsey, Wessington and Virgil areas. They farmed in the Virgil area until 1964 when they moved to Huron where she has lived since that time. In 1998, Viola moved to the Huron Nursing Home.

Viola was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, the Huron Area Senior Citizens Center and the Adult Day Care Center.

She is survived by four sons, Merlyn Hines of Huron, Marvin (Joyce K.) Hines of Huron, Jimmie (Joyce A.) Hines of Wichita, KS and Richard (Yvette) Hines of Huron; two daughters, Gloria Hines of Spokane, WA and Janet Rhoades of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, three half brothers, Cecil Bonebrake of Wessington, Lawrence Bonebrake of Huron and Walter Bonebrake of Sturgis; five half sisters, Margaret Sexton of Huron, Joyce Price of Huron, Alice Timmerman of Aberdeen, Bertha Cole of Hitchcock and Edna Whites of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on July 25, 1993, her daughter-in-law, Marjorie Hines, her parents, one brother, Harold Kirton, and three sisters, Lucille Timmerman, Dorothy Ranft and Maxine Zell.
