Gene Reeser, age 71, of Huron died Monday, March 21, 2011, at StoneyBrook Suites in Huron.
His memorial service will be 11:00 am Monday, March 28, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with a private family inurnment prior to the service including Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
Memorial visitation will be from 1-8 pm Sunday March 27, 2011, at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 pm.
Genes family would like to request memorial be directed to Broadland Creek Junior Golf Program or the Beadle County Relay for Life Cancer Walk.
Gene D. Reeser was born October 31, 1939, in Moorhead, MN, to Lloyd and Frieda (Remboldt) Reeser. He attended school in Canby, MN, through the eleventh grade, when his family moved to Prescott, AZ.
Upon moving to Arizona, Gene joined the U.S. Navy, serving in San Diego. After being honorably discharged, Gene took a trip with a Naval buddy to Alpena, SD, where he met Bonnie Bennett.
Gene married Bonnie on April 22, 1961, at the Methodist Parsonage in Huron.
Gene worked for Van Dykes in the Building Division and Zales Jewelry, before working for almost 20 years at Schoenhard Ford.
Gene loved golfing, yard work, bird watching, and giving his friends and family a hard time. He was a member of the Huron Elks Lodge #444 and Broadland Creek Golf Course.
Gene is survived by his mother, Frieda Reeser of Prescott, AZ; son, Robert (Barbara) Reeser of Maize, KS; grandchildren, Dylan (Melissa Clyde) Reeser of Harrisburg, SD, Whitney (Austin Johnson) Reeser of Wichita, KS; step grandchildren, Ashley (Jai) Jefferies of Kona, HI, Sarah Jorgensen of Wichita, KS; 3 great grandchildren, Rylee Reeser, Dominik Johnson, Ian Johnson; brothers Mike Reeser of Olathe, KS, Steve (Theresa) Reeser of Prescott, AZ; sister, Kathy Petersen of Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Bonnie on June 25, 2010; and step grandson, Cory Weisser.
