Jim Murtha was born in Baldwin, WI. His family lived in Hammond, WI, at the time and at the age of six, he moved with his family to Glenwood City, WI, where he graduated from high school in 1966. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for two and a half years, then served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 until 1973, as a hospital corpsman/lab tech, being stationed in San Diego, CA, Oakland, CA, Idaho Falls, ID, and the last year with the Navy Military SeaLift Command on a military ship transporting United Nations South Korean troops to Vietnam.
After his honorable discharge he attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1975 with a BS degree in Mortuary Science. After completion of mortuary school, he worked for one year at the Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN, and in 1976, joined the staff of Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1998, he moved to Huron, SD, as manager and partner of the Welter Funeral Home. He is a licensed funeral director/embalmer in South Dakota and Minnesota.
Jim is an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish where he is a past member of several church/school building committees; past member/secretary of St. Martin Cemetery Board of Directors; member and past president of Kiwanis; member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign War; board member of Huron Community Foundation; and the "emcee" for the American Cancer Relay for Life in Huron for 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Peggy Murtha

Peggy Murtha (nee Hill) was born in Glenwood City, WI, where she grew up and graduated from high school. After graduation she worked for Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis, MN, and later as manager of the Shoe Department at Field & Schlick Department Store in Minneapolis.
She is married to Jim Murtha (Funeral Director). She moved with her husband, Jim, to Wells, MN, in 1975, and to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1976, where she managed the Interlude Bridal Shoppe for many years. In 1998, she moved to Huron, SD where she is the office manager at Welter Funeral Home.
She is an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and a past Little Parish Leader; and the VFW Auxiliary.

Tim Bishop

Funeral Director
Tim Bishop was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He grew up in Rock Falls, Iowa, and graduated from Plymouth Road Christian School, Plymouth, Iowa, in 1990. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, and his Mortuary Science Degree from the Cincinnatti College of Mortuary Science, Cincinnatti, Ohio.
He served his apprenticeship and worked at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, Iowa, before going to work for The Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa in 2002. Tim worked for Miller Funeral Home and George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD, before moving to Huron in 2008. He is a licensed funeral director/embalmer in Iowa and South Dakota.
Tim’s family includes his wife, Lisa, and three children: Annalise, Josiah and Elijah.
Tim enjoys fishing and the outdoors, golfing, reading, and spending time with his family.
He is an active member of Bethesda Church of Huron.

Dan Krugman

Funeral Director
Daniel Krugman was born in O’Neill, NE. At the age of five, he moved to his grandfather’s farm, where his father took over the family farm. His mother is the Kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School in O’Neill. Daniel lived on the farm until he graduated from O’Neill Public High School in 1998. He then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, initially majoring in Engineering, before switching to pre-Mortuary Science. Daniel received his Mortuary Science degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College in May of 2005.
While in college, he worked for Porter Funeral Home and Crematory in Kansas City, Kansas and Lenexa, Kansas. After graduating from college, Daniel joined Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne, NE.
He was an active member of the Wayne community for over four years, before joining Welter Funeral Home in October of 2009. Daniel is licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in South Dakota and Nebraska.
Daniel’s family includes his parents Dale and Susan Krugman of rural O’Neill; his brother Tim Krugman and his wife Falycia and their son Braden of O’Neill; and his Chocolate Labrador, Porter of Daniel’s backyard.
Daniel enjoys the outdoors. He is an avid waterfowler and sporting clay shooter, enjoys golf and training his dog.
Daniel is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, the Current President of Sertoma Club of Huron, Broadland Creek National Golf Course, a Ducks Unlimited committee member, and Pheasants Forever.

Mark Kohlmeyer
Maintenance/Funeral Assistant
He is a native of Huron graduating from Huron High School.
Mark's family includes a son, Chad.
He is an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
